It was great running into Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Mullen at the Bruins Alumni game yesterday. Joe played in Pittsburgh during my years with the Penguins and you won't find a nicer guy. He ended his career with 502 goals and three Stanley Cups. (When you reflect on it, those Penguins Cup teams were ridiculous: Lemieux, Jagr, Francis, Trottier, Mullen, Tocchet, Stevens, Coffey, Murphy, Recchi,U. Samuelsson, Barrasso, etc.). For Worcester-area hockey fans, it's interesting to note that Joey played at BC with SPM legend Bobby Hehir. In 1978, he was a teammate with Auburn's Dickie Lamby in the Blues organization. Later, he had the distinct honor of being roommates with David A. Jensen on the star-studded Team USA squad in the 1984 Canada Cup. From Hell's Kitchen,, NY to the Hockey Hall of Fame. It was quite a ride and it's great that he is is now part of the Bruins Alumni family. The great John Horrigan interviewed Joe yesterday for Bruins Alumni TV and we'll post that on theBoston Bruins Alumni page soon. |
